Edward Sargent Wildlife Management Area, NM
This installation of in-stream structures falls within one of several exclosures constructed along the Rio Chamita earlier in 2020 to relieve browse pressure from elk along designated sections of the stream, and to allow these sections of riparian meadow to recover. To build upon this work, we installed 18 BDAs (Beaver Dam Analogs) and 10 PALS (Post-Assisted Log Structures) in order to elevate the water table, facilitate floodplain reconnection during high flows, and increase in-stream habitat quality and complexity.
Work was completed with funding and on-the-ground support from NM Department of Game and Fish.
