Watershed Restoration Field Guide: Post-Fire Restoration Edition
This illustrated field guide from Hermit’s Peak Watershed Alliance, Quivira Coalition, Rio Grande Return, and partners provides practical, low‑tech, nature-based techniques for restoring watersheds after wildfire. Aimed at landowners, land managers, and volunteer crews, it explains what watersheds are, how fire impacts soil and water, and offers step‑by‑step instructions for building rock and log structures, such as one rock dams, rock rundowns, media lunas, Zuni bowls, baffles, log mats, log step‑downs, trash racks, contour felling, wildlife slash piles, and conveyance swales. These structures are designed slow and spread water, reduce erosion, capture sediment, and promote native vegetation recovery.
